Web development portfolio

Below is a selection of some of our recent web design and development projects:

Stella Homewood

Since becoming a solo artist Stella wanted a loverly looking new website that would portray her work.

Singer - songwriter Stella Homewood (who lives in Lewes) has been writing and performing her own material since 1994, Now a solo artist, her songs have matured into heartfelt, lyrical and enchanting arrangements with deep, poetical and meaningful lyrics. Stella has now co-produced and released her stunning Debut solo album Ordinary Day, on her own Independent label Harmony Records.

Stella wanted to be able to update the site herself using a Content Management System, she also wanted the ability to add gigs, testimonials, pictures and sell her album online.

We implemented a bespoke design with Stella's input and the outcome is a very nice looking new site which Stella is very happy with, have a look and see what you think.

Akamas Villas

Martin came to us initially to help him with getting his business up and running in the Search Engines and Adwords. Although he had a nice original site in Wordpress it was not enough to get him the results we wanted in a very competitive SEO market.

Martin was also commissioning a media company to produce a series of videos to go on the website illustrating the very best of the Akamas Peninsula and some of the local people and their businesses; As well as this the site was going to be quite rapidly expanding in terms of the amount of Villas, content and functionality required so he needed to be able to easily manage all the content himself online.

On consultation with Martin and our web team we felt a new site design and a rebuild in Drupal 7 would massively help our SEO campaign and would mean that site was built on a more scalable, responsive and flexible system. We took the opportunity to make the site into a fantastic showcase site using modern design interfaces and integrated Search Engine Optimisation.

Some of the items undertaken by our team on this project:

  • - Modern design interfaces
  • - Youtube download and embedding from the user feed
  • - Strap line work to define the business and help us understand the business as part of our SEO stratergy
  • - Content Management system with Villa and page management
  • - Villa review system and client testimonial system
  • - Social networking integration
  • - Cartoon character drawing work requested by client and undertaken by one of our design partners (Carey Art)
  • - Integrated Search Engine Optimisation

Kings Framers

This project was implemented in partnership with ALALA Design Studio who came to us with a custom design they wanted converting into a Content Management System.

The requirements were to have a custom theme with some really nice effects for viewing & zooming into images (to show the quality of the prints and framing work), a full shopping cart system, bespoke modules & an admin system so all content could be manged by ALALA Design Studio and the shop staff.

The site was built in Drupal using Ubercart and bespoke modules, the theme is a custom theme based on the designs provided by Design Boize and implemented by iSOS. Again its another great example of what can be achieved with a drupal photography website. Payments are taken through Paypal currently.

British Medals

Rennie Alcock has been a registered medal dealer since 1974. He was responsible for the British Medals side of Liverpool Medal Co. Ltd from 1979-2011.

When Liverpool Medals decided they wanted to split the business in two and Rennie was going to handle the British Medals side on his own, there was a need to build a new website for the sale of British Medals.

Rennie wanted a new fresh looking E-Commerce site that could handle everything he needed to run a store and have bespoke functionality for reports and administration.

The site was built in Drupal using Ubercart and bespoke modules, it features a custom theme with some very nice touches. Payments are taken through Sagepay.

Rant and Rave

The team behind the Rant & Rave Awards website required an online social community where people could meet up to discuss their satisfaction (or lack thereof) with services they had received from major UK companies.

The ability to show graphical representations of the companies' performance was an absolute must for Rant and Rave. To this end we have provided several graphs showing data on each company, as well as building a framework to enable other graphs to be added with minimal effort.

A full administration area was also provided to allow the Rant and Rave team access to infinitely customisable reports on all of the site's performance metrics, to manage users and also manage all other aspects of the site's operation.

The site features 'friends list' functionality which allows users to keep track of their friends and other people of interest across the social network, and also allows them to import their contacts automatically from their current email provider.

This project was implemented in partnership with Weedoo Media.

Subud Britain

Subud Britain is the national organisation for the spiritual community of Subud in England, Wales and Scotland. It is also part of the World Subud Association. There are approximately 1,200 people in Subud Britain, and over 50 meeting venues where people come together for the spiritual practice known as the latihan, a direct personal experience of and connection with the highest universal power, something every human being has the capacity to feel and experience.

Subud required a new website for the public side of the organisation and a private side of the website where they could setup regional groups and private groups where user could collaborate, upload documents, pictures, videos and find out more about the private side of being a member.

We achieved this using Drupal the perfect system for building collaborative community sites. We built custom Drupal modules and integrated them with contributed Drupal modules like Organic Groups, Panels, Ubercart & Views.

Chris Beetles Fine Photographs

The Chris Beetles Gallery in London have been a client of ours for quite some time, we look after their Mac network, Database and Website. The Gallery has a reputation for exhibiting the finest examples of British art, their comprehensive exhibitions, and museum quality catalogues, are regarded as some of the best in the world.

The requirements where for us to build 2 websites for the gallery one a clone of the other as the gallery was opening a new second space in London, to focus purely on photographs (http://www.chrisbeetlesfinephotographs.com/).

They have an existing part static / part dynamic website powered by Filemaker for the main gallery website (http://www.chrisbeetles.com/), the task for us was to rebuild the website in a powerful robust Content Management System that could integrate with the Filemaker database so the gallery could carry on with their existing working practices but have 2 fantastic new websites.

With lots of hard work and many late nights we integrated their Filemaker database with Drupal (Our CMS of choice) one of the most robust and scalable open source CMS's available on the market.

The first site to launch was the fine photographs website to co-inside with the opening of the new gallery at the beginning of 2011, we are very proud of the website design and the technological implementation achieved on the project, its a great example of what can be achieved with a drupal photography website. The main site launch is coming very soon.

Scott Fraser Training

Scott had an old static HTML site that needed an update, the requirements where that he wanted to mange all the web pages himself, upload new courses / edit existing courses and a Blog, he also wanted a small amount of SEO done so he would appear in localised results.

The site had to be built on a system that was scalable so it could be built upon in the future when the business expanded.

We rebuilt the site in a Content Management System and restructured the content and HTML all within budget. Scott is really pleased with the site and had 3 new good enquiries after the site was launched.

iSeek Creative

iSeek wanted to have a new website built that would have a modern feel and give them a professional look.

The ability to show new books as they are published and keep people up to date with the goings on at iSeek, through a calendar system and a blog was a must have to show how dynamic the company is. The site is built in a full CMS system so the staff can keep everything up to date through an admin system.

I think its safe to say the team are very happy with their shiny new website.

Hanna Evans Acupuncture

Hanna came to us because she had an existing website that was not performing in the search engines and she could not update the content on the site.

We rebuilt the site in a Content Management System and restructured the content and HTML. The other element Hanna wanted was to appear in localised results for Lewes and Fulham so we implement the targeted SEO strategies we use and have had great results, Hanna commented : Thank you - I'm now on 1st page in Google in both Lewes and Fulham - which is great as it's only been a few weeks.

Artyfect

Artyfect wanted to expand their retail business to the web. In preparation for this we built a warehouse stock management system with FileMaker Pro. While products were was being managed by FileMaker Pro the website needed to be a receptacle for 10,000+ art supply products. The key to Artyfect's online success would be down to an extensive level of search engine optimisation and a first-class shopping experience. Artist's products come in varying colours and varying ranges which meant that displaying the options and maximising the effectiveness of the product search facility was vital.

Ongoing search engine optimisation with keyword adjustments and building in functionality to submit products to third-party product search sites has kept Artyfect on top of their game.

Terra Firma Associates

The team at Terra Firma wanted a new site built in a modern CMS, Terra Firma are international recruitment advertising specialists so a professional website was a must have.

The site is completely managed through an admin system in the CMS and the staff can update their status live on the site and all other aspects of the site can be managed easily.

Terra Firma is about as global as an international recruitment advertising agency can be. They have got the linguistic and cultural expertise to build the relationships and get the results you want on every continent.

This project was implemented in partnership with Weedoo Media.

Axcess Capon

As an international distributor of textbooks Axcess Capon required a multilingual website, with the ability to provide copies of books in a variety of different formats and languages to customers.

The textbooks are available to purchase in the following formats:

  • Printed book (delivered through the post in the traditional manner)
  • PDF book (protected with DRM technology to provide anti-copying and anti-distribution measures)
  • Electronic Flash book

Printed books
Axcess Capon have several fulfilment houses based around the world that are responsible for shipping products purchased through the website. Custom integration scripts were written for each of these fulfilment houses, providing the website with a fully automated workflow.

PDF books
Having suffered large losses due to piracy and unauthorised distribution of their PDF books, Axcess Capon required a secure, copyright-friendly method of protecting their intellectual property. To accomplish this we integrated the website's custom shopping cart system with Adobe's Content Server, a secure DRM service that encrypts the contents of PDFs. The method has been equally well received by Axcess Capon and their customers.

There were many other custom elements built into the website, including a complicated system allowing users to pay an amount of their own choosing for limited access to online books, systems to allow university professors to conduct research into the behaviour of the students purchasing books, and much more.
